The Loti-Neti is a porcelain pot with a comfortable handle and an elongated spout, used to rinse the nose with a saline solution. In Ayurveda the method is known as Jala Neti and has been traditionally used for thousands of years to naturally cleanse and refresh the nasal passages.
What it is
The pot is made of porcelain, which is easy to clean and resistant to soiling. The long, narrow spout fits comfortably into the nostril and allows a smooth, controlled flow of the solution.
The saline solution (warm boiled water with salt) passes through one nostril and out the other, mechanically washing away dust, allergens and excess mucus from the nasal cavity.
How it works
Rinsing with an isotonic saline solution is traditionally used to support normal breathing and the natural moisturising of the nasal lining. It helps maintain a sense of free breathing, especially in dusty environments, dry air or during the pollen season.
How to use
Fill the pot with warm boiled water, add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir until fully dissolved. Lean over a sink and breathe through your mouth. Place the spout in the left nostril and tilt your head to the side so the solution flows out through the right nostril. Use half of the liquid for the left and the other half for the right nostril. After rinsing, exhale gently to clear any residual water. In dusty environments, during seasonal irritants and through the heating season, daily use is traditionally recommended.
Suitable for
People who want to maintain daily nasal hygiene, as well as those prone to a blocked nose, dryness of the lining or discomfort during the pollen season. Also suitable for those practising yoga and Ayurvedic routines.
Important
- Use only boiled and cooled (or distilled) water, never tap water directly.
- The solution should be lukewarm to slightly warm, not hot.
- Wash and dry the pot after every use; it is a personal-use item.
- Do not use during an acute infection, nosebleed or after nasal surgery without consulting a doctor.
- Rinsing is not a substitute for medical treatment; for persistent complaints consult a specialist.
- Keep out of the reach of children; use by children only under adult supervision.
